About the creator
Hello! I’m Sierra. I’m the owner of this small work-in-progress, Altrutopia! As a devoted Christian and part-time college student, I love to explore all the hidden and simple joys in life that God gives us. I work with little beads and charms, crafting unique designs that I personally love and find enjoyment in sharing with others.
About Altrutopia
When I first became inspired to work with beads, it was to make a glasses chain so I would hopefully stop losing my glasses all the time. Before I made the chain, I searched all over for ideas on what I wanted it to look like. This process shouldn’t have involved purchasing a million different charms and beads out of pure excitement, but unfortunately that’s what happened. Nonetheless, gaining all these new materials sparked ideas of more things I could make besides a glasses chain. I thought, “this stuff would be fun to make for others!”
Out of all the names I could have called my little shop, I chose Altrutopia. The word is a combination of altruism and utopia, which are defined below.
When thinking about altruism and utopia, it makes me think of a perfect place where everyone values others above themselves. We might not be in heaven yet, but while we are here, we are called to “love your neighbor as yourself,” which is God’s second greatest commandment.
Before any orders came in, I was already excitedly preparing my packaging, stickers, and notes to include. I selected and designed everything by hand, only delivering products and goodies that I knew would make you all feel special. I found joy in creating, but it felt all the more worthwhile when I saw the smiles it brought from unwrapping and receiving them.
And then, aha! My mission statement came to me. Acts 20:35.
